PQMD Releases 2017 Guidelines for Quality Medical Donations

Members of Partnership for Quality Medical Donations Reaffirm their Commitment to Safe and Effective Product Donations

Annapolis, Md. – June 26, 2017 – The Partnership for Quality Medical Donations (PQMD) today announced that their Guidelines for Quality Medical Donations have been updated and approved for 2017.

The PQMD Guidelines serve to provide a framework to guide and inform the medical product and device donation community on best practices and responsible strategies to assess and implement global donation programs. New to the guidelines for 2017 include several flowcharts serving as quick reference guides, as well as easy-to-use and comprehensive checklists for both corporate and NGO users of the document.

“The guidelines are extremely useful and welcome. Standardizing and defining guidelines allows for considerations of appropriate governance, quality, ethics, and effective results to be included in all product donations. This results in more meaningful and impactful interventions by pharma and their partners, when it comes to product donations,” said Jayasree Iyer, Executive Director, Access to Medicine Foundation, an independent organization.

The 2017 edition of the PQMD Guidelines, approved by the PQMD Board of Directors, reflects the base of knowledge, experience and expectations of the membership for how medical product donations will be judged going forward.  It is PQMD’s hope that other organizations will join PQMD member companies and non-governmental organizations in using these standards to guide their work in supplying donated medical products, addressing needs of partner organizations, institutions and governments, both in their own countries and globally.

“Even as PQMD continues to evolve as an international organization focused on global access to health care and aid, we remain steadfastly committed to this set of industry guidelines,” said PQMD Executive Director Elizabeth Ashbourne. “We are proud of all of our facets of work, but the Guidelines are the foundation upon which we were built, and we continue to be dedicated to our members, our partners, and the donation community at-large in assuring we remain a pillar of guidance.”
