PQMD and Americares continue to work together on the Healthcare System Strengthening-Medical Missions Initiative. The initiative aims to improve the practice, impact and sustainability of medical missions to better support and strengthen local healthcare systems. In a recent update of the initiative’s work to better assess and implement medical missions, the group shared progress in their objectives of developing best practice guidelines and an international stakeholder assessment framework. Much of the initiative’s recent progress took part in Honduras, where many medical missions take place. The initiative’s work in Honduras found key stakeholder engagement, which has spurred plans for identifying stakeholders in other countries. More information about the Healthcare System Strengthening Medical Mission Initiative will be shared through PQMD’s Community of Practice, further communications and social media efforts, and attendance at relevant conferences.
