Rohingya Refugees with COVID-19 Flee Quarantine
Rohingya refugees who have contracted COVID-19 are fleeing their quarantine in the camps due to the fear of being sent to the Bay of Bengal. At least two Rohingya aremissing after the first COVID-19 death was reported on June 2nd. To date, 29 COVID-19 infections have been diagnosed in the camps. Many Rohingya are nervous to be
tested as they fear they will be sent to Bhashan Char in the Bay of Bengal. This fear is making it challenging to increase testing among the Rohingya population.
About one million Rohingya, who left a military crackdown in Myanmar, are packed into camps on the border in Bangladesh, making COVID-19 a very big concern for the area.
