President George W. Bush Shows Public Support for President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR)

President George W. Bush is urging lawmakers to continue support for President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), an initiative he founded during his presidency to fight the AIDS epidemic in Africa. In addition to writing an op-ed for The Washington Post, President Bush also recently paid a visit to Botswana and Naimbia to demonstrate how much the program has done on the African continent. According to his op-ed, 12 million lives have been saved as a result of Pepfar’s work.  He hopes the initiative’s partnership with Pink Ribbon Red Ribbon will allow the initiative to address the preventable epidemic of cervical cancer.

President Trump’s proposed budget includes $300 million in cuts from Pepfar.
