PQMD Members Responding to California Wildfires
In response to what has become the deadliest series of wildfires in California history, several PQMD members are actively responding with aid and financial contributions.
Direct Relief, who responds each year to California wildfires, recently made their entire wildfire inventory available (including 400,000 N-95 masks), and delivering more than 20,000 N-95 respirators, 20 oxygen concentrators, and medicine to the Butte County Public Health Department in Oroville, California.
Americares emergency response team is on the ground in California and actively coordinating with partners. In addition to N-95 masks, they have also delivered OTCs, hygiene items and cleanup supplies for a shelter housing 100 evacuees in Yuba City. Shipments of medicines and medical supplies, including insulin, analgesics and respiratory meds will arrive Tuesday, supporting a local health center in Yuba City.
PQMD corporate member Amgen, headquartered in Thousand Oaks, on Monday pledged $500,000 from the Amgen Foundation those affected by the fires in Ventura and Los Angeles counties. Per their statement, “The Amgen Foundation will select recipient non-profit organizations based on relief effort needs.”
As the devastation from the still-raging fires unfolds, PQMD members will continue to evaluate the situation and determine how they might best provide additional aid to trusted partners.
