PQMD Members Respond to Famine in East Africa
It's important to prevent inappropriate donations during disasters. PQMD encourages donors to work with experienced NGOs (nongovernmental organizations) that have pharmacological experience, established relationships with the government and in-country NGOs and a strong field presence. PQMD facilitates sharing disaster assessment data to ensure that only requested products are donated.
Below is a list of PQMD Members actively responding to the Famine in East Africa including links with more information about their work. Many members are working behind the scenes to respond appropriately.

AmeriCares first emergency shipment for the famine in Somalia is on its way to Mogadishu where thousands of starving children and adults are arriving daily in search of food, clean water and shelter. The shipment contains enough basic medicines and supplies to treat 15,000 malnourished patients at risk of dying from preventable diseases. The medical aid will be used in health care clinics and by mobile medical teams treating the swelling refugee population, estimated at around 100,000 and growing every day.

East Africa Crisis - over 10 million people in the Horn of Africa continue to face the consequences of famine. Restricted access to the most affected areas continues to hamper relief efforts. IHP is committed to doing all we can to deliver much needed medical aid, however we are unable to operate as freely as we would like. We are presently sending Emergency Health Kits to our trusted partners in the region and hope to ship in bulk once restrictions have eased. For those wishing to donate funds, each £1 we receive is multiplied to deliver £30 of medical aid to those in greatest need.
