IHP Develops Software Platform for Donation Tracking
Juggling the complexity of donor requirements, international shipping and working in places affected by conflict or natural disaster is enough to give anyone a headache. So IHP set out to make it easier.
We worked with two other European agencies (Banco Pharmaceutico in Italy and Germany’s action medeor) to develop a software platform, EURMED, that manages the whole process from end to end. Donors log on to the system and announce stock available for donation. Our distributing partners, NGOs and other agencies on the ground, are notified that stock is available and can choose which stock to accept. This allows IHP to ensure that we only receive stock from donors that we know we can place with our partners, in line with the WHO and PQMD guidelines for responsible medical product donations.
Once products have been shipped out to the place of use, the system enables partners to acknowledge receipt and provide feedback on the quality of goods and how they are used. This provides us with useful information to take back to our donors, helping them see the impact that their donation has made.
Keeping the data in one system ensures that we maintain complete traceability of products all the way to the point of use. EURMED also facilitates effective and timely reporting of Adverse Events and Product Quality Complaints, all of which is essential for compliance with our license under the terms of the European Medicines Directive (our version of the Drug Supply Chain Security Action).
