The Partnership for Quality Medical Donations (PQMD), the Virginia Tech Institute for Policy and Governance (VTIPG) and the World Economic Forum (WEF) propose developing the next phase of the Forum’s Humanitarian Relief Initiative as a cross-sector learning and practice network focused on advancing the effective and equitable integration of in-kind resources into cross-sector efforts to address global health needs more effectively.

The first meeting of the network was held June 11, 2010 at the World Economic Forum office in New York.   Lois Ann Porter VP Strategic Advantage, VisionLink, Inc. facilitated the development of a short and long term plan. The network will build on the experience and capacity of the founding partners to provide a dedicated space for GIK donation professionals to expand their capacity to improve global health.   Future meetings will be sponsored by the participants and will seek to engage an increasing number of stakeholders.  Contact us for more information.

The three-fold mission of the Global Health GIK Learning Network is to:

  • Foster communication and information sharing among the principal stakeholders involved in provision and use of health-related gifts in kind for disaster mitigation and relief and for development so as to encourage broad scale learning concerning health care service delivery challenges and solutions.
  • Serve as an authoritative convener and source of information and educational programs for all parties interested in the use of donated pharmaceuticals and medical devices for global health care delivery
  • Improve coordination of participating stakeholder activities in development and disaster-related efforts by securing increased levels of awareness and trust among those members through shared engagement in the Network.
