MAP International Haiti Six Month Update

MAP International

MAP International responded to the initial disaster event in Haiti through the provision of emergency medicines and medical supply shipments to nearly a dozen of our field based partners.  These partners working in the provision of healthcare services, delivered treatments to thousands of Haitians affected by the earthquake of January 12, 2010.  Additionally hundreds of US based healthcare professionals transported MAP donated medicines for use in emergency medical clinics and trauma care settings during the early weeks of response.

With over 27 million dollars wsv of medicines and medical supplies delivered over the past 6 months, MAP has provided substantial support for emergency medical teams as well as to our long term health development partners who provide ongoing medical services through established hospitals, clinics and health outposts around the country.

MAP is in the process of following these immediate (short and medium term) efforts with a multi-year plan to continue the provision of essential medicines along with our support for the recovery of the government health care system and private charitable health institutions.  Strengthening of rehabilitation activities for people affected, as well as development of programs that lead toward “Total Health Villages”© that contribute toward the Millennium Development Goals are key elements of MAP’s long term rehabilitation plans.  The thrust of the strategy is Relief to Rehabilitation and furthering the continuum into long term sustainable development.
