MediSend Haiti Six Month Update

MediSend International

UPDATE July 1, 2010:
Within days of the earthquake that struck Haiti on January 12th, MediSend International shipped over twenty-four tons of medical supplies and biomedical equipment to the devastated country. Doctors, nurses and community health-workers with Partners in Health and Salvation Army Emergency Relief received the life-saving shipments from MediSend.
On-going:
Haiti’s healthcare system has been virtually destroyed by the earthquake. It is essential that the hospitals and clinics are re-opened and available for the people who have been left in such dire circumstances. So far, little has been done to begin the process of developing a permanent healthcare system for Haiti’s population. While emergency aid is and continues to be the highest priority, plans for a sustainable healthcare system must be implemented soon.
MediSend is continuing its emergency support of Haiti with ongoing shipments of medical supplies and biomedical equipment. Our inventory of basic medical supplies is now open for selection and delivery to International Child Care for distribution to Grace Children’s Hospital.
MediSend is a global leader and innovator in the professional training of biomedical technicians and the development of biomedical repair laboratories. Having trained the first biomedical repair technicians for many developing country hospitals, MediSend is working with in-country partners and developing long-term plans to bring the same results-oriented, capacity-building programs to Haiti’s reconstruction.
MediSend’s healthcare strengthening programs can bring additional improvement and sustainability to what hopefully will be a more effective healthcare system in Haiti. MediSend looks forward to providing Haiti with the resources and capacity to develop a national program in biomedical technologies.
