The Partnership for Quality Medical Donations

PQMD Members

The Partnership for Quality Medical Donations (PQMD) is comprised of non-governmental organizations and pharmaceutical and medical supply manufacturers that share a common commitment to advancing effective drug and medical supply donation practices.

Involved in various aspects of the donation, delivery and/or distribution of medical products, PQMD member organizations independently support diverse efforts. These may range from assisting victims of natural disasters to building sustainable health care services for underserved populations. Some PQMD members are involved in programs to combat specific diseases, while others secure critical supplies for under-resourced clinics and hospitals around the world. Initiatives may target specific populations such as refugees and displaced people, while others focus on children, mothers or whole communities within a region. Although PQMD members are involved in projects that vary in scope and purpose, they share a common vision - that of increasing the quality of medical product donations.

Tulipe is an organization, located in France, that federates donations made by pharmaceutical companies to provide an emergency response to the needs of populations in distress as a result of acute health crises, natural disasters or conflicts. Its involvement takes the form of kits of medicines that can be provided in a very short time frame and that are adapted to needs in the field. With a view to good management of resources, any kits that are not used in emergency missions can be reallocated to other aid programs. In these specific cases, they are donated to duly selected French organizations that commit to respecting a set of requirements as defined by Tulipe.
1982, Tulipe was created in response to a genuine need: international humanitarian aid lacked the medicines and medical-surgical equipment it needed to perform its mission. By 1983, Tulipe became the official interface for companies and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) working in the field in emergency situations. The medicines donated by Tulipe have benefited 50 countries around the world.
